Donal is a psychologist, educator, and researcher with over 15 years’ experience in health services evaluation and mental health. He received his Ph.D. in Meaning in Life in mental health recovery from Trinity College Dublin. Donal previously worked in clinical, academic, and statutory sectors including the Mental Health Commission of Ireland, University College Dublin, and the Saint John of God mental health services. He brings his substantial expertise in mental health recovery, applied health services research and policy, and intervention development and evaluation to his work in Nádúr.

Donal runs Nádúr’s research programme, coordinates funding applications, and conducts scientific assessments of its interventions and training. He also ensures Nádúr’s curricula are theoretically grounded and evidence based, utilises research data to influence decision making and change in health services, and manages company administration and communications.

Donal utilises his role in Nádúr to generate knowledge on the feasibility and efficacy of nature-based interventions, drive health service reform, and enhance the quality of health systems globally. He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals, presented widely at international conferences, and sits on the Editorial Board of the Irish Journal of Psychological Medicine.
